A Tale of Two Nations - Chapter Two

Over a thousand years ago, Celestia and Luna once ruled Equestria equally, by bringing the land day and night, until one fateful night when Luna refused to live another day under Celestia's shadow. The Old Lunar Republic, as it's known today, was created, along with a race under Nightmare Moon's image, the alias the stricken Luna has assumed to gain her legions of followers. She has long lost the conflict between herself and Celestia, and her punishment was to be banished from the country of Equestria for all time.

Now in the present day, the New Lunar Republic is now a nation smaller than Equestria, but thriving with advancements in technology, and abundances of gemstone and gold mines. However, the N.L.R. suffers heavily from the harsh environment, making food for all a desperate struggle. As a soldier in Queen Luna's army, Ashen Nightwing, a descendant of Nightmare Moon's creation, is a troubled colt with a dark past, but is strongly loyal to the N.L.R. and its' survival, is thrust a task upon him to investigate a series of attacks on the country from their east neighbor of Equestria.

Ashen is ready to retaliate, believing they truly were responsible. But as his investigation unfolds, and six ponies enter his life, his beliefs and loyalties are put to the ultimate test, especially as one of those six, a pegasus, shows him that there is more to life that he long left behind him. Will he remain true to his convictions, or will his perceptions on Equestria change, as well as the mission? Will he fall deeper into darkness, or will he be able to find redemption with the pegasus about his past transgressions? More importantly, will he be able to stop what seems like an inevitable second clash between his nation and Equestria?

This is the first FanFic I've ever written, and as everything the description suggests, it's one based on MLP. I've been stuck with Writer's Block for the longest time, but I think I finally managed to overcome that, so the product of that was this.
